Print cards • Scan & play

A music party game for guessing songs

Generate your own music cards, print them, cut them out, and try to place them on a timeline. This music party game will liven up any evening!

Basic rules

In short

Players/teams play songs by scanning the QR code on a card, and try to place that song in the correct spot on their own timeline. First player/team to correctly place 10 songs wins!

Setup
  • Play solo or in teams.
  • Each player/team gets 1 starting card (song, artist, year) and places it face up (QR down) as the start of their timeline.
  • The player with the oldest starting card begins; play proceeds clockwise.
Playing music
  • On each turn, the DJ scans a new random card and starts the song.
  • The music starts after a short countdown. We recommend turning the phone screen down so nobody sees the title.
Turns
  • While the music plays, the active player/team must place the card face down (QR up) onto their timeline: before, after, or between existing cards.
  • Flip the card and check the year. If correct, the player keeps the card; otherwise discard it.
  • If the card has the same year as another, it can be placed right before or after and still counts as correct.
Winning
  • First player/team to correctly place 10 cards on their timeline wins.
Tips
  • Keep the phone screen down during playback so nobody glimpses the title.
  • If possible, play via a Bluetooth speaker — the sound will be much better than a phone speaker.

Optional tokens (more tactics)

Want to spice it up? Add tokens (coins, coasters, etc. — anything you have). Each player/team starts with 2 tokens. If you correctly say the song title and artist before flipping the card, you earn an extra token. Use tokens like this:

  • On your turn: pay 1 token to draw a different card instead of the current one.
  • On an opponent’s turn: after they place the card (but before flipping), bet 1 token that they placed it wrong. If correct, you take the card.
  • Any time: trade 3 tokens for a card you add to your timeline without guessing.

Where the songs come from, and why you need Spotify

The database is built from charts of the most popular songs over the last 70 years. For each year, it contains dozens of the most successful songs — and you can generate playable cards from them.

  • You need Spotify to play: each card links to a Spotify song so it can be played.
  • We don’t store music here: this site stores no songs — only Spotify links, to respect copyright.
